Trade Sider Mobile
The terminal, in the hand.
- Disciplines
- Mobile, Cross-platform, API design
- Technology
- React Native, TypeScript, Node.js
Schematic
01
Challenge
Bring a dense, desktop-class trading terminal to iOS and Android without forking its data layer or weakening its rule that every value is real.
02
Architecture
- Expo and React Native with file-based routing, consuming the terminal's existing Next.js API.
- A configurable server endpoint, so the same build can point at production or a local development backend.
- No data is duplicated or computed separately on the device — the API remains the single source of truth.
03
Design
Workspaces re-composed for a phone rather than shrunk: one focused view at a time, touch-sized controls and the same data-status language as the web terminal.
04
Engineering
- Shared TypeScript types and conventions with the web platform.
- A server configuration flow available both at build time and inside the app's settings.
05
Infrastructure
The mobile client relies on the web platform's authenticated API, so security and data rules are enforced in one place.
06
Outcome
- A cross-platform mobile client that reuses the existing platform instead of re-implementing it.
07
Technology
- React NativeMobile client, typically on Expo for build and release tooling.
- TypeScriptShared contract language across client, server and tooling.
- Node.jsServer runtime for application and integration services.
08
Lessons
Mobile is a different product surface, not a smaller screen — the architecture can be shared, the layout cannot.
